Installed a home network around a RedHat Linux server as router/firewall with PPP, including other systems running MacOS, and another PC that does a dual-boot of Red Hat and Windows NT/95. Upgraded Linux systems from 5.2 to 6.0 (server), and 6.0, 6.2, 7.1 desktop. Upgraded Windows 95 to 98. Upgraded server from PPP to dual ethernet and broadband link, with web and e-mail services. 1999-2001 Assumed lead role in conversion of infrastructure services (DNS, authentication, user front end) from Solaris to Linux. Developed a system for efficient installation and maintenance of Linux user desktop systems. 1991-2001 National Center for Atmospheric Research, Scientific Computing Division, Systems Group. Rewrote Internet Remote Job Entry (IRJE) system in perl to be more efficient and blend with other gateway systems. Lead system administrator for several Sun servers. Converted many of NCAR's applications to run on Solaris. Installed and configured multiple Solaris servers. Assumed the lead role in NCAR's Internet security efforts. 1988-1991 Systems Programmer, NCAR,/SCD, Networking Group. Officially became postmaster, news administrator and DNS administrator for all of NCAR. Implemented an organization-wide alias database (sendmail-based) and an online screen-oriented directory for searching and modifying the database. Converted e-mail and news systems from UUCP-based to TCP/IP based. Took over maintenance of Cisco AGS+ routers; implemented first subnetting of NCAR's IP network. Took over maintenance and development of IRJE system. 1985-1988 Systems Programmer, NCAR, High Altitude Observatory (HAO). Lead systems administrator for a PDP 11/70 (UNIX v7) and a pair of VAX 11/750 (4.2BSD) systems. Maintained and upgraded HAO's e-mail and USENET news systems (sendmail and UUCP based). Installed new Integrated Solutions 68020-based system running 4.3BSD. Decommissioned VAX systems and installed and configured replacement Sun 4/280 systems running SunOS 3.2 1983-1985 NCAR/HAO. Began doing systems programming on PDP and VAX UNIX systems. Served as backup system administrator for HAO systems. 1981-1985 Applications Programmer, NCAR/HAO. Assisted scientists with modification and running of complex solar models and analysis and display programs on PDP 11/70 microcomputer (UNIX v7) and CDC 7600 and CRAY-1 supercomputers. 1979-1981 NCAR, Mesoscale Research Section. Assisted scientists with modification and running of FORTRAN programs on NCAR's CDC 7600 and CRAY-1 systems. 1978-1980 Teaching Assistant, Department of Mathematics, University of Colorado.
